WHAT YOU WILL NEED
COLLAR
Any collar that doesn’t tighten is appropriate for everyday wear. This collar is what I use for most of my dogs in training.
LEASH
A good 4-6ft leash is a staple in dog training. Leather leashes are much gentler on the hands than most other materials.

OVERVIEW
“Wait” is a cue that signals to your dog that they will need to momentarily hold still, but that you will be moving shortly. As this is a more informal cue, we will teach it more organically than the others.
To signal to your dog that you want them to hold their position, say “wait,” stop walking, and give a small hand movement backward toward your hip with the leash. When practiced over time, your dog will begin to understand what “wait” means. There is no need to use treats when teaching this behavior. It is absolutely ok if your dog sits or ‘downs’ after being told to “wait.” This behavior will typically be used around thresholds, but can be used elsewhere, such as standing in line.
